Kenai girls sprint relays lead the day at Pro Whit track meet

The Kenai Central girls sprint relays captured victories in the 400 and 800-meter relays Saturday at the Pro Whit meet at the Dome in Anchorage.

The 400-meter relay squad won with a time of 53.14 seconds and the 800-meter team won in 1:51.18.

In other events, Kenai Central freshman Hayley Maw finished second in the girls 100 meters with a fast time of 13.28 seconds, just two days after scoring a goal for the Kardinals soccer team in a 3-1 win against Soldotna.

Sophomore Kenai teammate Ithaca Bergholtz took second place in the girls 3,200 meters with a time of 11:50.10. Bergholtz finished 31 seconds behind winner Elizabeth Balsan of ACS.

Kenai senior Abby Beck finished second in the girls shot put and discus throws with respective throws of 30 feet, 11 1-2 inches, and 103 feet, 8 inches. Homer freshman Anna Brock took home the bronze in the shot put, settling in right behind Beck with a toss of 30 feet, 4 1-2 inches.

Kenai sophomore John Grossl finished second in the boys discus with a heave of 121 feet, 4 inches.

In the boys high jump, Kenai senior Keenan Orth’s leap of 5 feet, 10 inches, was good for second.

In the girls long jump, Kenai junior Julieanne Wilson took third with a leap of 15 feet, 9 1-2 inches.

Kenai junior Josh Jackman had a big day with a runner-up in the boys long jump — traversing 20 feet, 1 1-2 inches — a runner-up in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.37 seconds, a third place in the 100 meters and a third place in the triple jump, with a distance of 39 feet, 5 inches.

Homer senior Aurora Waclawski finished second in the girls 400 meters with a time of 1:03.15.

Waclawski’s junior teammate Lauren Evarts finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.74 seconds, while Kenai freshman Brooke Satathite took third in 52.99.
