The Soldotna soccer teams grabbed a sweep Tuesday against Seward at Justin Maile Field in Soldotna. The SoHi girls won 12-0 and the boys won 9-1.

The SoHi boys were led by three players with two goals apiece. Eric Mayoral, Timmy Smithwick and Drew Kant scored a pair of goals each, while Johnny Smithwick, Tommy Flores and Connor Larson chipped in the scoring. Dylan Kuntz notched three assists and Eli Sheridan had two.

The boys led 6-1 at halftime, starting with a scoring strike from Mayoral in the eighth minute. Johnny Smithwick scored off a direct kick in the 13th minute, Mayoral scored with help from Timmy Smithwick three minutes later, and by the 18th minute, the Stars pushed the lead to 4-0 with a goal from Kant.

“I enjoyed seeing the continued progression and growth of our passing game,” said a pleased Soldotna coach Darryl Byerley. “We’re transitioning well in passing the ball from our defense to the midfield to the strikers.”

Seward scored on SoHi goalie Blake Jones in the 31st minute, but Kant answered with his second goal just minutes later with an assist from Sheridan.

Timmy Smithwick scored twice and Larson hit netting in the second half to seal the win, which boosts SoHi to 9-3 overall.

Soldotna will celebrate Senior Night at home Friday against Houston.

In the girl game, Jaela Hubbard’s hat trick led the way for the Stars, which improved to 8-3 overall.

Abi Tuttle scored two goals, while Reagn Schoessler, Whitney Wortham, Alyssa Wolfe, Ella Stenga, Hannah Delker, Brianna Bennett and Amandy Eby all notched a goal.

“The girls came out and played good,” said SoHi coach Jimmy Love. “It was a combination of where we left off in (Saturday’s) Nikiski game (a 3-0 win), where we possessed well but weren’t shooting.

“This time, they got into spots where they could shoot and they shot.”

Maddie Kindred started in goal for just the second time all year for the Stars, and Stenga finished off the second half in net. Love said he hopes to see Kindred back full time by either Saturday’s game against Wasilla or next week. Kindred has been recovering from a preseason injury.

SoHi will face Houston Friday at 4 p.m. at home, which will be Senior Night.
