Kenai Peninsula powerlifters went up to compete at the USA Powerlifting Alaska Championships on April 30 at Bartlett High School in Anchorage. The championships had 81 lifters.
Austin Schrader, 17, from SoHi, competed at 205 pounds and did 286 pounds on the bench press to set a new Raw Teen 2 state record at that weight class. He also set a state record by doing 485 pounds in the deadlift. His final record was in three-lift total at 1,218 pounds. Schrader was second in the teen 205-pound category.
Brenner Furlong, 16, from Soldotna High School, placed third in the open 183-pound class and second in the teen 183-pound class.
Also from SoHi, Jace Urban, 17, was first at teen 155; and Galen Brantley III, 14, was third at 164. Bryce Martin, 17; Levi Hensley, 16; Trent Walden, 14; and Catharine Turner, 15, also competed for the Stars.
