Soldotna pitchers Caleb Spence and Mathew Daugherty combined on a no-hitter Tuesday in a 1-0 Southcentral Conference victory over host Homer.

“The two pitchers we pitched tonight probably had some of the best pitching of the year,” Soldotna coach Robb Quelland said. “They hit the zone proper and didn’t get upset and allow the umpire to take over the game.

“They pitched where they were supposed to and took advantage of the batters they faced.”

Spence pitched the first four innings, while Daugherty pitched the last three innings. A walk, hit batter and two errors kept the Stars pitchers from perfection.

Homer coach Rich Sonnen also was pleased with the way his staff held down the potent Soldotna attack.

Joe Ravin pitched three innings, Adam Brinster pitched two innings and gave up the lone run, and Garrett Butcher pitched the last two innings.

The run came in the fourth, when Kenny Griffin singled, went to second on a passed ball and went to third on a balk.

Joey Becher then hit a hot grounder to third. Homer elected to take the out at first rather than make the play at the plate.

“We probably could have gotten him at home, but at the time I didn’t worry about it because we’ve been putting up a fair amount of runs,” Sonnen said.

Kolten Wilson was 3 for 3 for the Stars, while Terrance Slats was 2 for 3 and Becher had a double.
