The weather has been great, and the course is looking beautiful. You may even think you are playing at a country club with how nice the greens are at Bird Homestead. It is the perfect time to go out to the course, and don’t forget about the daily specials; Monday is $1 a hole, Thursday is two play for the price of one, Tuesday is Men’s Night and Wednesday is Ladies Night.

Ladies Night

Last Wednesday the ladies had a marvelous time. Pat Faith and Susan came in with an even par, winning first place. Pat also had an excellent tee shot on No. 6, winning closest to, long putt and also pure birdie. Kelsey Slough hit an incredible drive on hole No. 2, winning long drive. Ladies night is every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., we play for fun, it’s a blind draw scramble and we just like to have a night without the men.

Men’s Night

On Tuesday night we had a great turnout with 33 men. The top team of the night was the team of Marty Radvansky, Trevor Baldwin and Dwight Kramer, coming in with minus-3. We had a tie for second with minus-2, so we had to do the infamous Bird Homestead chip off to distinguish a second and third place team. Josh Kerkvliet hit an amazing chip leading his team of Ernie Pruett, Brian Wodareck and himself to the second-place victory, and in third was Brandon Wold, Larry Taylor and Chris Rich. Aaron “the Hulk” Blackburn hit an incredible drive on No. 2 winning longest drive and Mike Fastabend was on fire on No. 6, winning pure birdie. Ernie Pruett and Jeff Gilman hit great tee shots on Nos. 6 and 8, winning closest to on those par 3s. Men’s night is every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Tournament/Junior Golf Recap

Our junior golf program has ended with great success. We had 15 kids for this week long camp. Thank you to Steve Ellis and Tom Walsh for helping teach young kids the game of golf, and thank you to the Bird Homestead Golf Association for donating two sets of golf clubs to two of the juniors golfers. Austin Gilstrap and Paytience won the brand new sets of clubs from the association.

Our first tournament of the season was on Saturday. Coming in first place with a 55 was the team of Aaron Blackburn, Larry Taylor and Jeff Gilman. In second with a 60 was Margie Ubben, Hans Brons, Travis Robertson and Judi Artman, and in third was the team of Kelsey Slough, Ken Ubben, Marty Radvansky and Steve Ellis.

Upcoming Tournaments

The first annual Summer Solstice Tournament is this Saturday, June 18 at 6 p.m. to midnight. This tournament is a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s association. It is an 18-hole scramble, you can bring your own four man team, or we will put one together for you.

Fact of the day

The total number of golfers in the U.S. is 29 million, which is 9.6% of the population.
