The comeback kept rolling for the Nikiski Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in Wasilla.

Nikiski grabbed a 47-6 Peninsula Conference victory over Joe Redington Jr./Sr. high school, the Bulldogs’ third win in a row, improving the Bulldogs to 3-2 overall and a conference-leading 2-0 in the Peninsula Conference.

Seward 22, Homer 14

The Seahawks picked up a crucial Peninsula Conference win Saturday in Homer.

After a scoreless halftime, Seward scored all 22 of its points in the third quarter, starting with a 1-yard push into the end zone by Nik Pahno with 8:26 left in the frame. Beau Freiberg took a handoff in for a two-point conversion.

Four minutes later, Seward was in the end zone again, as Freiberg scored from 10 yards out, and a two-point pass from Pahno to Rhett Sieverts gave Seward a 16-0 lead. Michael Wilps capped the Seward scoring with 44 seconds left in the third quarter, getting across the goal line from a yard out for a 22-0 Seahawks lead. Wilps ended with 126 rushing yards to lead Seward.

Homer answered with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jaime Rios to Jack Heimbold with 11:10 left in the game. Rios struck again with 8:21 to go, connecting with Joe Ravin on a 69-yard throw that further cut into the lead. Rios found Ravin on the two-point pass, but that would be all Homer could muster. Ravin ended with 94 receiving yards.

Rios ended up 10 for 24 for 166 yards and two scoring passes, while Pahno finished 5 for 15 with 74 yards and an interception. However, Seward outgained Homer 218 to 15 in ground yardage.

With the win, Seward improved to 2-0 in conference play, settling the Seahawks into second place in the Peninsula Conference standings behind Nikiski (2-0). Seward is 2-3 overall.

Homer (0-5), meanwhile, continued its winless season in its first conference matchup of the year. Homer lost starting quarterback Teddy Croft earlier in the week with a broken leg.

Valdez 60, Voznesenka 14

The improved Buccaneers dominated the proceedings in a nonconference clash in Homer.

Voznesenka dropped to 0-4 overall this year.
