Heather Moon of Kenai finished second in the women’s division Saturday at the ninth annual Alyeska Climbathon at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.

The multilap event is held at the North Face Trail, which is about 2.2 miles long and climbs about 2,000 vertical feet from the Hotel Alyeska to the tram terminal, where runners take the tram back down to the hotel. Runners have 10 hours to complete as many laps to the tram terminal as they can.

Moon was able to complete nine laps to the top, accumulating 18,225 vertical feet and 19.8 miles. Crystal Berwick, the top woman, was able to complete 10 laps for 20,250 vertical feet and 22.0 miles.

Christopher Kirk was the overall winner, ticking off 12 laps for 24,300 vertical feet and 26.4 miles.

The event had 290 climbers and raised funds to boost awareness of gynecological cancers and aid Alaskans living with those cancers.
