According to the Boise State sports information department, sophomore running star Allie Ostrander of Soldotna is injured and will likely redshirt this cross-country season.

Ostrander finished second at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships last season, but she has yet to compete this season.

When Ostrander was not on the list of competing Broncos for Friday’s Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, letsrun.com reached out to Boise State and received the following statement: “Allie Ostrander is currently injured and will likely redshirt the cross country season.”

Ostrander has come back to find success after being injured before.

At Kenai Central, where she graduated in 2015, Ostrander won three Class 4A state cross-country titles, set state records in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, and won Nike Cross Nationals in 2014.

But late in her senior track season, Ostrander told milesplit.com she started having bursitis and tendinitis in her right hip.

She sat out several national races after the high school season, then returned for Mount Marathon, where she had won six junior titles. In her senior debut, Ostrander placed second to Salomon professional athlete Emelie Forsberg and clocked 50 minutes, 28 seconds, the second-fastest women’s time in race history.

She then went on to her freshman season at Boise State, where she won the Mountain West Championship and West Region Championship. She also went to North Wales in the season for a victory in the junior women’s race in the World Mountain Running Championships.

That success continued in the indoor season, as Ostrander ran 15:21.85 for 5,000 meters and 8:54.27 in the 3,000 meters to break school and Mountain West records. That 5,000 meters also was good enough to qualify her for the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials.

But in the 5,000 meters at indoor nationals, Ostrander stepped off the track with an injury. She later told the Clarion the injury was a stress fracture in her tibia, which forced her to miss the outdoor track season.

But Ostrander did return from that injury to place eighth in the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, in early July. That race sent three on to the Olympics.

Ostrander was then ranked No. 1 in a preseason cross-country poll published by FloTrack heading into this season before missing all of Boise State’s races to date.
