Homer wrestlers take Homer Round Robin Rumble

The Homer wrestling team won the Homer Round Robin Rumble on Saturday.

The Mariners scored 238 points to run away with the tournament, while Houston was second with 134 points and Soldotna was third with 124 points. Also from the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai was fourth, Nikiski was fifth and Voznesenka was seventh.

Taking first for the Mariners were Wayne Newman at 106, Seth Inama at 113, Luciano Fasulo at 126, Mose Hayes at 132, Jared Brant at 138, Timmy Woo at 160, Tristen Cook at 182 and Kyle Wells at 195.

The Stars received championships from Gideon Hutchison at 120 and Bechler Metcalf at 152.

Nikiski’s title came from Tyler Litke at 220, while Kenai got a first from Jacob Anderson at 145. Nikit Anufriev also won at 170 for Voznesenka.

Friday, the teams got together in Homer for the Rumble Duals.

In those dual meets, Redington defeated Homer JV 33-30, Houston defeated Soldotna 43-29, Nikiski defeated Voznesenka 60-18, Homer defeated Kenai 57-6, Soldotna defeated Nikiski 49-30, Redington defeated Voznesenka 24-23, Homer defeated Soldotna 58-15, Houston defeated Kenai 54-27 and Homer’s junior varsity defeated Voznesenka 36-21.

Seward competed at the Throwdown in Snowtown in Valdez this weekend, finishing ninth with 59 points while Wasilla won with 189.

The Seahawks were led by a second-place finish from Rebekah Christenson at girls 152 and a third from Cole Norcross at 113 and Nele Hohenstien at girls 152.
