West ski teams sweep Lynx Loppett

The West Anchorage ski teams swept the boys and girls Lynx Loppett team titles Friday and Saturday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.

Led by three skiers in the top six of the girls race, and three skiers in the top seven of the boys race, the Eagles won both team races. The West girls compiled a two-day total time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, 52 seconds, to beat Chugiak, who finished at 2:36:06. The West boys won with a total time of 2:07:16, beating runner-up Service (2:10:18).

The Soldotna boys took home eighth place with a team time of 2:24:47.

Magdalen York of West won the girls race with a two-day combined time of 36:20, beating teammate and second-place Molly Gellert by 18 seconds. The top local racer was Addison Gibson of Kenai in 20th with a two-day time of 41:17. Cameron Blackwell was the top Soldotna girls skier in 49th, with a time of 51:13.

Gus Schumacher of Service won the boys race in 29:40, beating runner-up Luke Jager by three seconds. Kenai’s Karl Danielson was the top peninsula skier in 15th (33:57), while Koby Vinson was 21st to pace SoHi.
