SoHi graduate Fox leads area at Besh Cup 1 and 2 in Anchorage

Soldotna graduate Sadie Fox, who now skis for the University of Alaska Anchorage, finished 10th in a 1.4-kilometer classic sprint Saturday during the opening weekend of Besh Cup racing at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.

There are six Besh Cup races and they are used to pick the Team Alaska that will compete at Lake Placid, New York, in Junior Nationals in early March.

Also in the over-18 women’s 1.4K classic sprint, Addison Gibson of Kenai Central was 31st, Riana Boonstra of Kenai Central was 41st and Kellie Arthur of Soldotna was 53rd.

The over-18 men also did a 1.4K sprint. Homer graduate Andre Lovett led the way for peninsula skiers by taking 18th. Also from the peninsula, Karl Danielson of Kenai Central was 24th, Jeremy Kupferschmid of Soldotna was 35th and Koby Vinson of Soldotna was 49th.

Sunday, the challenge was a freestyle mass start.

In the over-18 women’s 10K, Fox was 14th in 29 minutes, 21 seconds, with Jessica Yeaton of Alaska Pacific University’s program taking first at 26:29. Also from the peninsula, Boonstra was 25th in 31:01, Gibson was 26th in 31:06 and Arthur was 46th in 36:36.

In the over-18 men’s 15K, Scott Patterson of APU broke away from the field to win in 33:49. Lovett was 25th in 38:21 and Vinson was 47th in 41:55.

The next two Besh Cup races will be Jan. 21 and 22 at Tsalteshi Trails in Soldotna.
