Nikiski girls, Homer boys notch wins

The visiting Nikiski girls used their stout defense to notch a Southcentral Conference victory over Homer on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs, who received 23 points from Bethany Carstens, had a 14-3 lead after the first quarter. Avery Kornstad pitched in 13 for Nikiski.

For Homer, Rylee Doughty led the way with five points.

Homer boys 65, Nikiski 38

The host Mariners jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter and didn’t look back in claiming a Southcentral Conference victory.

Koby Etzwiler had 14 to lead Homer, while Jordan Beachy chipped in 12.

For Nikiski, Ian Johnson pumped in 21 points.

Lumen Christi boys 54, Nanwalek 50

The host Archangels came back in the fourth quarter to notch a Peninsula Conference victory over the Eagles on Tuesday.

A 20-10 run in the fourth quarter turned the tide for Lumen Christi. Jarrett Fortune was a big part of the comeback, with 15 second-half points and two chase blocks on layups. Jon Streff had eight of his 13 points in the second half for Lumen, while Chiebuka Lebechi added 10 for the Archangels.

For Nanwalek, Malachi Joseph had 14 points and Marcus Wilson added 12.
