The host Soldotna girls basketball team claimed a big win Friday night by toppling Palmer 34-30 in overtime in Northern Lights Conference play.
Soldotna led 6-3 after the first quarter, but trailed 13-10 at halftime. Each team scored 12 in the third before the Stars drew even at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Soldotna’s Brittani Blossom had two of her 10 points and Danica Schmidt had three of her eight points.
Kassidy Bowman had 12 points for Palmer.
Palmer boys 46, Soldotna 28
The visiting Moose played stifling defense in a Northern Lights Conference victory over the Stars on Friday.
SoHi, which was led by six points apiece from Wendell Tuisaula and Sam McElroy, trailed 22-10 at halftime. Palmer’s Clayton Southwick was the only player in double figures with 19.
Wasilla girls 62, Kenai 36
The visiting Warriors rolled to a NLC victory Friday.
McKenna Dinkel paced the Warriors with 18 points, while Olivia Davies had 16 and Catherine Baham added 11. All of Kenai’s scoring came from three players — Brooke Satathite had 14 and Lara Creighton and Abby Beck had 11 apiece.
Wasilla boys 59, Kenai 42
The visiting Warriors overcame a 22-12 deficit after the first quarter for the NLC win.
The Kardinals hit four of their seven 3-pointers in the first quarter to take the lead, but Wasilla led 31-24 at halftime.
Kabe Brown had 16 points for Wasilla, while Daniel Headdings added 15. Josh Jackman pumped in 15 for Kenai.
Ninilchik boys 91, Nanwalek 24
The host Wolverines cruised to another Peninsula Conference victory Friday.
After starting the year 2-5 against larger competition, Ninilchik has won six games in a row, all against fellow Class 1A teams. Over that 6-0 run, Ninilchik has averaged 90.1 points a game and has outscored their opponents by 56.6 points.
Five players finished in double figures for Ninilchik — Austin White with 20, Garrett Koch with 18, Tyler Presley and Dalton Geppert with 15, and Matt Bartolowits with 14.
Malachi Joseph had 12 points for Nanwalek.
ConocoPhillips Warrior Rumble
The Klawock girls and boys basketball teams were the only undefeated squads at the Nikolaevsk tournament after two days. Both Klawock squads beat Nikolaevsk, which also had been perfect on the first day.
The Klawock girls notched a 27-18 win over the Warriors, with Taya Marvin and Aliyah Trout each scoring 11 points to lead the Chieftains.
Klawock was able to hold Nikolaevsk to two points in the first half. Kristin Klaich paced the Warriors with six points.
The Klawock boys pulled out a 58-52 victory over Nikolaevsk. Klawock trailed 14-10 after the first quarter, 28-27 at halftime and 39-36 after three quarters.
For Nikolaevsk, Kalenik Molodih and Zachary Trail each had 13, Nikit Fefelov had nine, Anfim Kalugin had eight, Michael Trail had five and John Jones and Kosta Nikitenko each had two.
The Ninilchik girls notched a 53-10 win over Birchwood Christian, with DeeAnn White and Olivia Delgado each scoring 16 points and Mikayla Clark adding 11.
The Birchwood Christian boys defeated Homer 57-38. Michael Balos had 16 for the Warriors, while Tanner Reich had 12, Landen Wohrle had 11 and Collin Becker had 10. Ethan Anderson had 10 for Homer JV.
