Saturday: Kenai girls beat South

The Kenai Central boys hoops squad capped a successful weekend series with North Pole with a 74-57 victory Saturday in Kenai.

Josh Jackman pumped in 20 points for the Kardinals, who also got 16 points from Nick Beeson, 13 from Luke Beiser and 12 from Tristan Landry.

Kenai had beaten North Pole at home on Thursday.

The Patriots got a jump on Kenai with a 19-12 lead in the first quarter, but Kenai responded by outscoring North Pole 18-8 in the second quarter to grab a 30-27 halftime lead.

The Kards kept the momentum going in the second half by outscoring North Pole 44-30 to secure the win.

Kenai girls 60, South 57

The Kardinal girls team picked up a close victory Saturday over South Anchorage in a nonconference meeting.

Abby Beck fueled Kenai with 25 points, hitting 12 of 17 shots from the foul line, while Lara Creighton scored 17. Madison Ayers paced the Wolverines with 20 points.

The win bumped Kenai’s overall record to 9-12 this year.

Grace Christian boys 59, Seward 48

Tobin Karlberg put on another show Saturday afternoon with 27 points to send Grace to a Southcentral Conference win over Seward.

Sully Hauze led Seward with 23 points.

The Grizzlies led 21-10 after one quarter and 36-18 at the half, but Seward dug into the lead in the third quarter by outscoring Grace 18-10.

Grace Christian girls 55, Seward 27

The Grizzlies capped their weekend with a Southcentral Conference victory Saturday afternoon over Seward.

Annie VanderWeide hit 11 for 12 free-throws to lead Grace with 28 points. Ashley Jackson scored eight to lead Seward.

The Grizzlies took a 29-8 lead at halftime to ice the win early.

CIA boys 70, Wasilla Lake 60

Noah Leaf scored 44 points to lead the Cook Inlet Academy boys to a Peninsula Conference win Saturday over Wasilla Lake.

Leaf sunk 20 field goals in the monster performance. Jaden Kurtz led Wasilla Lake with 25 points.

The Eagles eked out a 14-10 lead early en route to a 31-25 halftime lead. The Warriors closed the gap in the third quarter to 46-44, but CIA held on to secure the win with a clutch fourth-quarter performance.
