The Nikiski girls pulled out a 3-0 Northern Lights Conference soccer victory Thursday over Redington.

On Wednesday, the Homer girls pulled off an upset over Soldotna with a 2-1 victory.

Meijan Leaf headed in SoHi’s only goal off a corner kick, but it wasn’t enough to top the Mariners, who got both goals from senior Uliana Reutov, one on a penalty kick and another on a close-range shot.

Homer girls coach Mike Tozzo said the victory was a milestone in his two years with the team.

“We won a game that counts, or one we needed to win,” Tozzo said. “We talked about the games we (need) to win, and this was one of them.”

Also Wednesday, the Homer boys prevailed in a 4-3 game over Soldotna. Simon Dye notched a hat trick for the Mariners, who are undefeated this year. Dye also provided an assist to Daniel Reutov.

Homer scored twice in the first seven minutes to stake out a lead, but the Stars took one back with a goal by Tanner Craig two minutes before halftime to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Mariners scored two minutes into the second half, but SoHi responded with a goal by Ben Godfrey in the 47th minute, making it 3-2. Homer answered back one minute later for a two-goal lead.

SoHi got one last goal in the dying minutes of the contest from Luke Trammell, but it came too little, too late.
