The Service Cougars pounded out the hits Friday in a 25-5 nonconference softball win over Kenai Central at Steve Shearer Memorial Ball Park in Kenai.

The Kardinals held steady over the first two innings, taking a 3-1 lead into the top of the third before Service came alive with seven runs to take an 8-3 lead. The Cougars wrapped up the win by mercy ruling in four innings.

“I’ve been coaching a long time, and that’s the best hitting club I’ve seen,” said Kenai Central head coach John Manley.

Kenai dropped to 5-10 overall this year.

Service outhit Kenai 14 to 3, including a pair of home runs.

Savannah Jones went the distance for the Kardinals and struck out one while giving up 14 hits. Manley said he was pleased to see the Kards limit the amount of errors given up, although Kenai had a tough time containing the firepower from Service’s bats.

Kenai’s Patricia Catacutan walked three times and scored twice, while Cierra King hit 2 for 3 with a double and Jenna Helminski went 1 for 2.

Service 15, Homer 8

The Cougars continued down to Homer and picked up another nonconference victory.

Annali Metz pitched four innings for Homer, yielding nine hits and 14 runs — seven of which were earned. Metz struck out one and walked 10.

At the plate, Elsie Smith was 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI, while Mary Hana Bowe was 1 for 2, Briana Hetrick was 1 for 1 with a run and two RBIs, Malina Fellows was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBIs and Sam Moonin was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI.
