Birch Ridge golf update

The Birch Ridge Golf Association and the Birch Ridge Golf Course would like to thank Nancy Field, State Farm Insurance, in Soldotna for helping to sponsor the annual All-Alaskan Skins Game that is held at Birch Ridge Golf Course the second Monday in July each year since 1997 (Just for memories – Billy Casper won that year). The Birch Ridge Golf Association would also like to thank Mike Navarre and Arby’s for helping to sponsor BRGA’s Junior Golf Clinic. We would also like to thank all the amateurs that played in the Pro-Am and the spectators (at least 50) that came out and supported the pros in the Skins Game. The winners in the Skins Game were Zac Cowan and Aaron Dexheimer ($2,400), second was Beau Forrest and George Collum ($1,600) and B.K. Kaiser and Chris Wright ($1,000).

Weekly activities included Monday Senior Golfers, actually held on Tuesday due to the Pro-am and Skins Game on Monday. Low net was a tie at 33 with Steve Tachick and Earl Mathis. Closest to on No. 6 was Tim Bowser, on No. 8 no one hit the green so $ went to party fund. Long Putt on No. 9 went to Steve Tachick.

Men’s night, played each Wednesday, the winners were Shane Sundberg (super Jr.) Rob Moore and Jeff Selinger with a 33. Second went to Zayan Aberkane, Terry Jackson and Matt Widaman with a 34. Three-way tie for third with a 35 were the teams of Cory Fowler, Darell Jelsma and Brad Carver / Earl Matthis, Mike Hollingsworth and Scott Weekes / Tim Bowser, George Stein and Scott Sundberg. Pure Birdie went to Zayan Aberkane on No. 1, who drove the Green. Closest To went to Shane Sundberg and on No. 8 to Rob Moore.

As of 7/12/17 the standings in the Men’s Birch Ridge Cup are in first place with 25.5 points, Darell Jelsma and Mike Hollingsworth, second with 22.5 points is Jeff Selinger and Jeff Perschbacher and third is the team of Jay Kriner and George Stein with 21.5 points. Many matches yet to be played.
