The Kenai Central volleyball team was swept in Kodiak on Friday and Saturday in Northern Lights Conference play. Kodiak moves to 4-0 in the league, while the Kards are 0-2 in the league and 1-2 in nontournament play.

Friday, the Bears got a 25-12, 25-22 and 25-23 victory. Kalameli Matautia had eight kills to lead Kodiak, while Isabelle Riina had 25 digs and Kyla Villaroya had 26 assists.

Saturday, Kodiak won 25-20, 25-23, 15-25 and 25-19. Richelle Walker had 13 kills to lead Kodiak, while Dannika Catt had 10 assists and 17 digs.

Nikiski 3, Houston 1

The Nikiski volleyball team ended a three-day Anchorage road trip with a victory over Houston on Saturday. The Bulldogs won with scores of 25-17, 10-25, 25-18 and 25-22, and improved their overall season record to 2-3.

Nikiski coach Stacey Segura said she was tasked with rearranging her rotations since outside hitter Brittany Perry was absent.

“I didn’t really know how I was going to arrange it,” Segura said. “It was kind of see how they’re gonna do.”

Segura said it provided setter Rachel Thompson to get hitting opportunities, adding that the team got the win on Thompson’s 18th birthday. Thompson ended with 14 kills.

After moving JV player Emily Hensley to the setter position, Segura said the only time the Bulldogs came up short was the second set, when the team fell into a rut.

“It was just one of those games, they kept making mistakes,” Segura said. “But they came out of it great.”
Nikiski senior libero Laura Hufford provided 21 digs, Lauren O’Brien added six kills, Brianna Vollertson had five aces and Hensley had 15 assists and six aces.

Grace 3, Nikiski 0

Grace Christian swept Nikiski in a Southcentral Conference matchup Friday in Anchorage, with game scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-17.

Senior setter Rachel Thompson led Nikiski with 18 assists and five serving aces. Libero Laura Hufford provided 18 digs, Lauren O’Brien had four kills and Ayla Pitt had three kills and two blocks.

“I don’t think the score showed how they really played,” said Nikiski coach Stacey Segura. “They competed point for point with Grace until the end.”

ACS 3, Homer 2

The Mariners completed a three-game road trip with a tight loss to Anchorage Christian Schools Saturday in Anchorage. The loss dropped Homer’s Southcentral Conference mark to 3-2.

Homer lost with scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 14-25 and 10-15.
