Kenai Central wrestlers top SoHi in tuneup dual

Kenai Central High School hosted Barrow, Dillingham and Soldotna for a series of dual meets as schools tune up for the Peninsula Duals on Friday and Saturday at Nikiski High School.

 

The Kardinals also used the opportunity to honor the program’s three seniors — John Grossl, Byron Dunham and Seth Kruse.

Kenai was able to defeat Soldotna in a dual meet 45-30. Getting pins for the Kardinals were Brandon Kroto at 145, Joseph Sylvestre at 152, Dunham at 195, Jacob Grant at heavyweight and Keaton Logston at 120.

Notching pins for the Stars were Sean Babitt at 170, Hudson Metcalf at 182 and Gideon Hutchison at 132.

The closest match of the dual was between Kenai’s Pierce Peterson and Soldotna’s Dalten Hulsey at 120. Peterson won by sudden victory at 18-16.

For the Kards, Kruse and Cody McCanna won by forfeit, while Bechler Metcalf and Logan Craig scored forfeit wins for the Stars.
