Danielson, Gibson qualify for Junior Nationals

The Kenai Peninsula qualified two athletes for Junior Nationals and another two for the Arctic Winter Games as the six-race Besh Cup series wrapped up Sunday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.

Kenai Central seniors Addison Gibson and Karl Danielson will represent the area at Junior Nationals at Soldier Hollow in Utah from March 3 to 10. Homer’s Autumn Daigle and Soldotna’s Kellie Arthur qualified for the Arctic Winter Games, which will be held from March 18 to 24 between the communities of Hay River and Fort Smith of the South Slave Region of the Northwest Territories.

Sunday, skiers finished with interval start freestyle races. Gibson took sixth in the five-kilometer race for U16 women and over, finishing at 14 minutes, 16.60 seconds. Quincy Donley won at 13:43.80.

Also from the area, Soldotna’s Sonora Martin was 27th at 16:18.50, Daigle was 29th at 16:24.50, Arthur was 38th at 17:00.60.

In the men’s U18 and over 10-kilometer race, Jack Novak won at 23:44.20, while Danielson was 12th at 25:50.10 and Soldotna’s Jeremy Kupferschmid was 23rd at 27:35.20.
