Area athletes compete at all-star track meet in Kodiak

Four athletes from the Kenai Peninsula competed in the Brian Young Invitational in Kodiak on Saturday and Sunday.

The meet serves as an all-star meet for track athletes from across the state.

Seward’s Ruby Lindquist led the way for the peninsula. Lindquist finished second in the 800-meter run, clocking 2:20.73 to the 2:19.20 of West Valley’s Bailey Roe. Kenai Central’s Jaycie Calvert was sixth in the race at 2:25.31. In the 1,600, Eagle River’s Emily Walsh won at 5:04.50, while Lindquist was third at 5:11.95 and Calvert was eighth at 5:20.56. Lindquist and Calvert also were on the SouthCentral All-Stars 3,200 relay team, which ran 10:03.15 to finish second to the 9:52.50 of the North SouthEast All-Stars.

Soldotna’s Sophie Thomas and Holleigh Jaime also ran at the meet. In the 100 hurdles, Chugiak’s Brooklynn Gould won at 15.46 while Thomas was third in 16.75 and Jaime was ninth at 18.28. In the 300 hurdles, Gould won at 45.94 while Thomas was sixth at 48.88 and Jaime was seventh at 49.97. Jaime also was on the 1,600 relay of the SouthCentral All-Stars that took third with a time of 4:21.51.
