I would like to thank everyone for all the positive feedback on the condition of the Kenai Golf Course. It is much appreciated. The greens, fairways and tee boxes are in excellent shape. Come out and enjoy some great early season golf!

It’s time once again for the Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula’s 27th Annual Golf Tournament. We welcome your participation in this scramble. There will be a continental breakfast and lunch provided, as well as raffles, chances to win prizes and more. Support from this event directly influences the lives of our young club members, with 425 kids walking through the doors every day.

The tourney takes place June 29, with registration at 7 a.m. and shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Sponsors include ConocoPhillips, BP, the city of Seward, the city of Soldotna, Central Peninsula Hospital, 21st Century Community Learning Centers and the United Way.

The Kenai Golf Course lost a very dear friend this past year. Fred Thompson passed away. He was a mountain of a man with a big smile and an even bigger heart.

The Fred Thompson Memorial Cup, run by Seth Thompson, will be held July 21 at 9 a.m. This tourney is open to all who wish to play, especially those who knew Fred and his family. It is a scramble format with teams drawn according to handicap groups A, B, C and D. You do not need a USGA handicap to play. The Thompson family looks forward to seeing you there.

Senior League results for June 5 — The seniors are now in their regular Tuesday morning routine. Jerry Norris does a great job of planning and keeping the league fresh. Bobby Bush won low gross with a score of 40 in difficult conditions. There was a tie for low net between Gary Brumley and Pat Bowen, each with 31s.

Longest putt at the ninth was won by Bobby Bush with a putt of 5 feet, 9 inches. Most greens in regulation was won by Bill Davis, hitting 7 of 9 fairways. There was only one skin and that was won by Bobby Bush with a birdie at the third. As you can see, Bobby Bush had a great day!

Senior League results for Tuesday — There was a tie for low gross between Jess Wade and Bill Davis, each with a 40. Bobby Bush continued his winning ways with low net score of 33. Fairways hit was met in a tie between Demie Moore and Bill Davis, each with 7 out of 9. Fewest putts contest was won by Jesse Wade with only 15 putts total. Again this week, there was only one skin. You might guess it was won by Bobby Bush, however, you would be wrong. This week the only skin was won by Jess Wade.

Men’s Night results for Thursday — Men’s Night, directed by Craig Jung, is up and running. Craig will be there every week and make sure there is chili and door prizes. Thanks, Craig, for taking over Men’s Night.

The team of Max Dye, James Dye and Kevin B won with a minus-4. The second-place team consisted of Craig Jung, Bill Haese and Clyde Reynolds. They finished with a 37. Closest to the pin on No. 5 was won by Max Dye at 24 feet. Closest to the pin on No. 9 was won by Kevin B with a truly outstanding shot of 2 feet, 7 inches. Men’s night is every Thursday at 6:30. Everyone is welcome.

This Saturday and Sunday is the first major tournament of the season — The Dick and Shirley Morgan Memorial Golf Tournament. This is our first year without the Morgans. This event celebrates their lives and achievements, and especially their vision of a Kenai Golf Course.

The two-day tournament is a stroke-play handicap format with multiple divisions featuring a net champion in each division. Tee times start at 9 a.m. Sign up by Friday at 6 p.m. Registration is $100 and includes lunch both days. Great prizes have been donated by Mike Navarre and the Kenai Golf Course.

Monday is the first day of our Ladies’ Clinic, 6 to 8 p.m., and our Juniors’ Clinic, 10 a.m. to noon. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can register by calling the clubhouse at 283-7500. Both clinics run Monday through Wednesday.

As always, see you on the course!
