Staff report Four former Kenai Peninsula soccer stars capped a successful soccer season with a championship loss.

The Tsalteshi Trails will hold a Turkey Trot 5- and 10-kilometer fun run Friday, Nov. 27, at noon along the Unity Trail path, starting and finishing at the Soldotna Regional Sports Center. Preregister online by Nov. 26 for a discount at tsalteshi.

The Soldotna Stars finished fifth among 43 wrestling teams at the annual Lancer Smith Memorial tournament Friday and Saturday at Colony High School. South won with 224.5 points, while Colony finished second with 178.5.

Several state age group records fell Saturday at the Dena'ina Powerlifting Challenge at Kenai Central High School. Of course, that is starting to become a regular theme for local athletes from Kenai Central and Soldotna high schools.

The Kenai Peninsula Pop Warner Junior Midget team defeated the Spokane North Falcons 49-13 on Saturday in the Division III Northern Region Championships at Doc Harris Stadium in Camas, Washington.

Levi Hensley scored the game-winning goal for Soldotna early in the third period against Homer and the Stars went on to beat the Mariners 5-4 Saturday at the End of the Road Shootout tournament in Homer.

The Janesville (Wisconsin) Jets swept the Kenai River Brown Bears on Friday and Saturday in North American Hockey League play at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. The Jets won 5-3 on Friday and 7-3 on Saturday to move to 12-6-2.

The Nikolaevsk mixed six volleyball team defeated Seldovia for the Denali Conference title Saturday in Seldovia. Both squads qualify for the Mixed Six State Tournament in Anchorage, starting Dec. 3. It is the third-straight state trip for the Warriors.
