The Soldotna boys basketball team defeated Juneau-Douglas 72-60 in the first round of the Powerade/Al Howard Tip-Off Tournament on Thursday at Soldotna High School. The Stars were the only area squad to pick up a first-round win.

Staff report The host Skyview Panthers were swept by the Soldotna Stars in two endowment basketball games Tuesday night at Skyview High School. The SoHi girls won a 43-23 game, while the SoHi boys won 52-43.

Seward Seahawks swept the Houston during the season opener for both teams Saturday in Houston. Jace Taylor and Matt Barron each collected 14 points for the Houston boys, but Seward came away with a 53-38 win over the Hawks.
