I won't recap last weekend's Kenai Peninsula Open in this space. The Clarion did a fantastic job doing so over the weekend, but I do want to thank the many people involved that have contributed to the tournament's success.

Anchorage Golf Course pro Billy Bomar missed out on qualifying for the Champions Tour Boeing Classic at a qualifying event Tuesday. Bomar made it through the pre-qualifying event at Druids Glen Golf Course in Covington, Wash., Thursday.

What a great round Ken Liedes had on the first day of competition at the Kenai Club Championship. Ken shot a red hot 75 on Saturday in windy, rainy conditions to take a commanding lead into day two.

The competition will definitely get tougher for the five Kenai Peninsula schools that competed in the Nikiski Class Races on Monday at Nikiski High School. The courses also will get easier than Nikiski's rugged, roller-coaster layout.

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions - Circle Track division held its fan appreciation night Sunday afternoon at Twin Cities Raceway. The circle-track racers were able to get in some racing after rain postponed a Saturday night event.

Kenai River Brown Bears goaltender Kris Oldham shined at the recent 2013 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Slovakia. Team USA finished up a 5-0 run to the tournament championship with a 3-1 victory over the hosts Sunday.

Anchorage Golf Course professional Billy Bomar warmed up for an attempt at making his first Champions Tour event by winning the Kenai Peninsula Open on Sunday at Birch Ridge Golf Course. Bomar took the two-day event with a 4-under-par 136.

The rainy weather could not cool off professional golfer Billy Bomar in the first round of the Kenai Peninsula Open at Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna on Saturday. Bomar took the lead in the Open Division by firing a 6-under-par 64.
