Saturday, the Peninsula Fighting Championship will host its fourth event - since the inception of the promotion - at the Soldotna Sports Center starting at 7 p.m.

Not since 2004 has a Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association made the trip to the national tournament. The last to do so were the Under-16 Ice Hawks nine years ago. This year, the Midget AA team broke the dry spell.

Lately, the Kenai River Brown Bears have been beating teams stocked with players with Division I commitments, so it's no surprise college interest has picked up in Brown Bears players. Three Brown Bears announced college signings this week.

Nikiski High School will host the third biannual SST competition Wednesday at 6 p.m. Kenai Central, Nikiski and Skyview all follow the SST curriculum and hold a competition two times a year.

The Kenai River Brown Bears completed a two-game sweep of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs with a 5-2 victory Saturday at the Soldotna Sports Center in North American Hockey League action in front of 1,114 fans.
