Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen got in his first two individual World Cup races of the season Thursday and Saturday in Oestersund, Sweden. Thursday, Hakkinen finished tied for 63rd in the 20-kilometer individual.

The Peninsula Oilers have signed two players from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. Andrew Barnett is a 6-foot-0, 185-pound right-handed pitcher from High Point, N.C. Matthew Fraudin is a 6-5, 210-pound left-handed pitcher from Pittsburgh.
