August was a good month at the Kenai Golf Course. Many exciting tournaments and clinics were held. The course is in great condition. It is probably as green as it has ever been.

After having trouble getting putts to drop all tournament, an unlikely putt fell on the 15th hole to give Chris Murray the spark he needed to win the Kenai Open on Sunday at Kenai Golf Course. Murray won with a two-day total of 8-over-par 152.

The Homer Mariners captured top team honors at the Skyview Invitational swim meet on Friday at Skyview High, topping Seward and Skyview with a total of 202 points. The Seahawks earned 94 points for second place, while the Panthers had 22 for third.

The Skyview volleyball team took fifth at the 15-team Chugiak Invitational on Saturday. After pool play Friday, the Panthers started off Saturday by defeating Service, but then lost to South and Palmer to finish fifth.

The circle track races were postponed on Saturday night due to rain. The races will take place today at 1 p.m. at Twin Cities Raceway. The gates open to the public at 11 a.m.

Nineteen bikers took to the Tsalteshi Trails on a wet Saturday afternoon for 10 miles of racing, although they didn't spend the whole race on the actual trails.

This is the last season for Skyview volleyball. The Panthers intend to make it a good one. "Our practice shirt theme is, 'The Final Season,'" said Skyview coach Sheila Kupferschmid, entering her 14th season at the helm.
