The Midwest squad, with three Kenai River Brown Bears, notched a 4-1 win over the North on Tuesday in the final day of the North American Hockey League Top Prospects Tournament.

The Iron Dog reached its halfway point in Nome on Tuesday, with race leaders Mike Morgan of Nome and Chris Olds of Eagle River reaching the halfway point of the 2,000-mile race at 4:37 p.m. At 5:02 p.m.

The Tsalteshi Trails Association will host the first-ever Fuzzy Predator 11K race Sunday at the trails behind Skyview High School. The race will be done on the trails named after fuzzy predators. There will be a freestyle and a classic race.

The Midwest squad lost its first game Tuesday at the North American Hockey League Top Prospects Tournament in Michigan. Vincent Stefan, Jake Davidson and Conor Deal of the Brown Bears all play for the Midwest squad. None had a point Tuesday.

A close race was shaping up in the Iron Dog, and area riders are right in the thick of it. Mike Morgan of Nome and Chris Olds of Eagle River were leading the race Monday night.

The 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmachine race started Sunday in Big Lake. The 37 teams will go to Nome and then to Fairbanks, arriving at the finish Saturday. Dusty VanMeter of Kasilof and Marc McKenna of Anchorage are going for a third-straight title.

The Kodiak girls basketball team swept Soldotna in a battle of Northern Lights Conference heavyweights Friday and Saturday in Kodiak. Both teams came into the contests undefeated in the conference.
