The pace of play is starting to pick up at Birch Ridge with a number of tournaments and events upcoming. The All-Alaska Pro-Am and Skins Game is set to take place July 14. The pro-am is a longtime favorite of golfers from all over state.

The weather is great, and the fun at Bird Homestead is increasing daily. The course is looking fabulous. The hard work of Larry Hamilton is definitely paying off. The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. You have to see it to believe it.

The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 9-7 on Tuesday in Alaska Baseball League play. The game at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai had no scoring until the sixth inning, but then runs started streaming across the plate.

The Kenai Golf Course will celebrate the Fourth of July with the Red, White and Blue Tournament organized by Rich Edwards. Rich started this tournament a couple of years ago and everyone really looks forward to it. The format is a two-person scramble.

The Peninsula Oilers split a doubleheader with the host Mat-Su Miners on Sunday, losing the first game 4-1 before rebounding for a 10-1 victory. The Oilers end their Alaska Baseball League-opening road trip with a 4-5 record.

The American Legion Twins split a doubleheader at Chugiak on Sunday, winning the first game 8-7 before dropping the second 15-3 in five innings. The Twins are now 6-4 in the league and 7-4 overall.
