The 2013 prep soccer season finally kicked off on the Kenai Peninsula on Monday, giving teams two weeks to fit in home games before taking a brief break before the Northern Lights Conference tournament on May 16.
And the ball didn't get rolling by much.
The Skyview softball team played Lathrop and Colony in the Valley on Saturday, dropping both nonconference games to open the season.
"The wind was blowing 30, and it was 20 degrees," Skyview coach Steve Schoessler said. "It was really windy and cold.
The Kodiak baseball team cruised past Soldotna on Friday and Saturday in Kodiak in Northern Lights Conference action.
The Bears notched a 12-1 victory on Friday and a 12-1 victory on Saturday to improve to 2-0 overall and in league.
