The Kenai Central boys pulled away from Soldotna in the third quarter of a close game to win their final regular season Northern Lights Conference game 56-45 Saturday night at Soldotna, while the SoHi girls put away the Kardinals early on to end the regular season on a high note Saturday at Soldotna.

The Soldotna girls topped Homer 54-12 to move to 8-1 in the NLC on Friday in Soldotna. In the boys game, Homer scored the last 10 points of the contest for a 53-41 triumph.

The Alaska Avalanche of Palmer defeated the Kenai River Brown Bears 4-3 in overtime Friday in North American Hockey League play at Palmer's MTA Events Center. The Bears gained a point on the Fresno (Calif.) Monsters in the race for a playoff spot.

SoHi graduate Paige Blackburn, a senior thrower at Air Force, was named the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, and Seward graduate Ryan O’Leary helped the University of Wyoming’s 800-yard freestyle relay make history at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Los Angeles in mid-February.
