On Thursday night, the Kenai River Brown Bears earned the respect of the Wenatchee (Wash.) Wild. On Friday and Saturday, the Bears felt the full force of that respect.

The Greatland Conference announced its postseason awards Saturday. Eielson, which won the conference, and Nikiski, which took second, each took two of the major awards.

The Nikiski volleyball team came up short in a close matchup against Grace Christian on Friday night at Nikiski, losing 3-1.

Grace took the first two games with scores of 25-16 and 26-24, and Nikiski came back strong in the third game with a 25-19 score, but to no avail as Grace edged the Bulldogs 25-22 in the final.

Both the Kenai Central and Skyview volleyball teams notched victories Thursday night. The host Kards went five games to defeat Houston in a nonconference affair. The scores were 14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-13.
