As the Kenai River Brown Bears enter their eighth season today with a 7:30 p.m.

There's just one tournament left on the 2014 calendar. Sad! The Cold Weather Classic is set for Sept. 20. The two-person event pairs a man and woman in an epic golf showdown to determine who will be crowned "Ice Queen and Servant" for the year.

The season is coming to a close very shortly. The weather is getting colder, but the one good thing about golfing in the cold, is when you come in after a round of golf, the hot soup from the kitchen tastes even better.

Soldotna staved off the threat of losing a clean sweep to Nikiski with a late rally in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday night at Soldotna High School. The Stars won 3-0 with scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-23 to improve to 2-0 overall.

The Cook Inlet Academy coed soccer team won the Tri-Valley Tournament for a second-straight year this weekend. The Eagles started the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Nenana on Friday.

A rainout on Friday caused a long day of racing Saturday at Twin City Raceway. The day started with a program to make up for Friday's rainout, then races were held under the Saturday night lights.

The Soldotna swimming and diving team led Peninsula teams at the Homer Invitational on Friday and Saturday. In the girls competition, the Stars were runner-up to Kodiak, finishing with 76 points to Kodiak's 88.
