Even though this is the first year the Class 1A state basketball tournament will be held at the Alaska Airlines Center, the Nikolaevsk girls and boys basketball teams have had the goal of returning there all season.

The Nikolaevsk girls and Seldovia boys defended their Peninsula Conference titles Friday at Lumen Christi in Anchorage. The Warriors and Sea Otters were both perfect in the conference's regular season and that didn't change come tournament time.

The Homer girls continued their mastery of Nikiski, topping the Bulldogs 44-41 for the Southcentral Conference title Saturday in Homer. It was a year of parity in the conference, especially on the girls side, but certain patterns did emerge.
