The fourth season of the Salmon Run Series will begin Wednesday at the Skyview trailhead of Tsalteshi Trails and continue weekly until Aug. 5.
Each race is five kilometers long and uses a variety of trails in the Tsalteshi system.
Fans got some unscheduled fireworks as well as a night of dominant racing Friday in dirt-track action at Twin City Raceway. The fireworks came courtesy of Chris Hawley, an Anchorage driver in the Legends division.
The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Chugiak Chinooks 2-1 on Saturday in Alaska Baseball League action at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
The win moves the Oilers to 8-7 in the ABL, three games ahead of the Anchorage Bucs and Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks.
Twin City Raceway will host dirt-track racing today and Saturday, with races starting at 6 p.m. both nights.
On both days, the gates open at 2 p.m., and qualifying is at 4 p.m. Rain makeup will be at 1 p.m. the next day.
The annual 10-mile and five-kilometer Rotary Unity Run will be held July 11, hosted by the Kenai River Rotary Club and Tsalteshi Trails Association, with prizes, raffle drawings and barbecue at the finish line.
