ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Upper Kalskag boy was killed in an accidental shooting on New Year's Eve, Alaska State Troopers said Thursday.
The dead boy was identified as 13-year-old Jason Timothy Evan who died from a single gunshot wound to his chest.
The accident occurred after the boy and his 7-year-old brother were left unsupervised while the parents left the home to play bingo.
Before they left, the boys got permission to get out the family's guns and get them ready to shoot off at the start of the New Year, said trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson.
Jason was shot with a Rueger rifle. By the time the village health aide arrived, the boy was already dead.
Troopers have determined that the shooting was accidental. They do not expect charges to be filed against the younger boy.
