Chambers set schedules

* The Peninsula Winter Games will be the focal point of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce's luncheon at noon on Tuesday at Froso's in Soldotna. The cost for lunch is $13 for those who wish to eat. For more information, call Michelle Glaves at 262-9814.

Funny River Restaurant becomes general store

Dave and Inger Devlin are the new owners of the Funny River Restaurant and have transformed it into a general store complete with groceries, fishing licenses and supplies and coffee to go. There is also a laundry mat and showers available along with propane and ice cream. The Devlins also have plans to open an RV park this spring. Winter hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call the store at 260-3442.

Brad Evans takes over Chugach Electric

The Chugach Electric Association Board of Directors appointed Brad Evans as Chugach's acting chief executive officer at a special meeting on Dec. 5. Evans is one of Alaska's most experienced utility managers. He was Chugach's senior vice president of power supply and has more than 23 years of utility experience. Evans was raised in Fairbanks and holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His career background includes strategic and resource planning, interconnected utility operations, fuel negotiations and management, power plant operation and maintenance and utility process efficiency analysis.

During the past year he has been deeply engaged in analyzing options for the continued delivery of reliable power through replacement or updating aging power plants and infrastructure. Evans has also been a key member of the gas negotiation team.

Aromatherapy classes offered

Central Peninsula Hospital is offering the first two courses leading to certification in clinical aromatherapy through the Institute of Spiritual Healing and Aromatherapy on Jan. 25 through 27 and Feb. 1 through 3.

Children's cooking workshops offered

Children ages 6 to 12 may attend pint-size workshop cooking classes at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Allen and Petersen Cooking and Appliance Center in Kenai.

Admission is two cans of food or a $2 donation to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. A parent must remain during the 30-minute workshops. For more information, call 262-3111.
