Oilers sign Boilermaker
The Oilers have signed sophomore right-handed pitcher Billy Lester of Purdue University for the 2002 season.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound hurler is from Nicholasville, Ky., and appeared in 20 games in his freshman season with the Boilermakers, finishing with three wins, two losses and three of the staff's five saves. Lester's major is undeclared.
J.T. Snow (Oilers 1987) batted .246 in 101 games for the San Francisco Giants. The 10-year major league veteran has amassed six gold gloves at first base during his career.
Florida Marlins relief pitcher Braden Looper (Oilers 1994) had a 3-3 record with three saves in 71 games in his fourth major league season.
Robert "Jude" Voltz (Oilers 1998) finished the 2001 season hitting .236 in 126 games at first base for the Milwaukee Brewers Single A farm team Beloit Snappers.
Fellow Brewers prospect Jeff Pickler (Oilers 1995) hit .287 in 134 games at second base for the Double A Huntsville Stars.
Oakland Athletics minor leaguer Mark Gwyn (Oilers 1998) had a record of three wins and 13 losses while starting 25 games for the Single A Modesto A's.
