CIA boys take fourth at ACS Invitational

Posted: Sunday, January 04, 2004

Adam Cooper led the Cook Inlet Academy boys team to a 66-50 win over Dillingham and a fourth-place finish at the ACS Invitational basketball tournament Saturday in Anchorage. With the game tied at 29 heading into the third quarter, Cooper exploded for nine of his game-high 19 points during a decisive 20-10 run that put CIA ahead to stay.

Blake Gabriel chipped in 17 points for the Eagles, while Kyle Nettles and Jeremy Franchino both added 11. Gary Cline and Bruce Womack each scored 13 to lead Dillingham.

CIA reached the fourth-place game after Nettles dropped in 32 points against Kotzebue Friday in the Eagles' 67-60 consolation round win. CIA lost to Barrow 61-47 in Thursday's first-round action.

The Homer Christian boys also participated in the tournament, losing all three of their weekend games to finish in eighth place.

On Saturday, Moffis led CIA with six points, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep the Eagles from being overpowered by the Bethel, who got 22 points from Roxanne Sadler to claim fourth place.
