A fire north of Kenai turned the evening air acrid Tuesday, though the culprit was not immediately identified.
Mike Tilly, assistant fire chief at the Kenai Fire Department, said the department was investigating the smoke but hadn't pinpointed the source as of 7 p.m. Tuesday. He said he suspected it was coming from a controlled burn about 6 miles north of the Kenai airport and was planning to sending a crew to investigate.
Capt. Jim Allemann with the Nikiski Fire Department also didn't know the source of the smoke. Neither department had received any emergency fire calls or reports of out-of-control fires in the area the smoke was coming from.
