Norma Carolyn (Lenhardt) Hodges of Arizona died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004. She was 71.
Visitation will be held at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler, Ariz., from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Mountain View Lutheran Church in Phoenix.
Mrs. Hodges was born in Lutherville, Ark., in 1933, one of 14 children. She married in 1951 and followed her husband and the oil fields west from Texas. She had three children.
The family moved to Alaska right after statehood, where she raised her children.
"She 'burned a lot of wood' to keep her children warm and lived on moose meat," her family said.
After the earthquake in 1964, the family started an air charter service, which became one of the largest in the state. She was secretary and treasurer until the sale of the business in 1989. Mrs. Hodges and her husband retired to Ahwatukee, Ariz., in 1989.
Mr. Hodges is survived by her husband, Troy; daughter, Diana of Soldotna; and son, Ross (Tiger) Hodges of Maumee, Ohio.
