Youth basketball registration ends today

Today is the last day to register for the Boys and Girls Club seventh- and eighth-grade basketball league. Registration will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club.

The season runs from Jan. 29 through March 17. The cost is $46 through today or $56 after today. All participants must be 2001 Boys and Girls Club members which is a $20 calender year fee.

Blood drive slated for Homer

The Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center in conjunction with the Homer Coast Guard detachment and Homer Elks Lodge will hold two community blood drives.

The first blood drive will be held today at the U.S.C.G Roanoke Training Center from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The second will be held Saturday at the Homer Elks Lodge from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Participants are urged to drink a lot of caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating.

Homer Community Schools registration

In-person registration for winter session of Homer Community Schools will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Community Schools office in the Homer High School. For more information, call (907) 235-6090.

Winter lecture series kicks off

The Central Peninsula Master Gardeners will kick off their winter lecture series 7 p.m. Jan. 12 with a presentation by Clayton Hillhouse on hydroponics for the home gardener. The meeting will be held at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

First aid classes planned

The American Red Cross will offer a community first aid and safety class Jan. 13. The class includes first aid, adult, infant and child CPR.

Red Cross courses meet all OSHA and workplace requirements. Preregistration is required.
