Ford to speak to historical society

George Ford, former manager of Colliers, will be the guest speaker at today's monthly meeting of the Kenai Historical Society. Ford will present a timeline of area industry between 1957 and the present. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. at the Kenai Community Library. For more information, call Mary at 283-7700.

Moving sale held to support family

There will be a moving sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 222 W. Redoubt St. in Soldotna. Funds raised will be used to help the Kevin and Kelli Sweatt family of Soldotna pay for medical and relocation expenses.

Disaster assistance deadline nears

Wednesday is the deadline to apply for state Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). DUA is available to residents and workers in the Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak and Chignik Bay areas for workers who lost work as a result of flooding. For more information, call (800) 590-5941.

KPC plans orientation, open house

Kenai Peninsula College will hold two new student orientations Wednesday at noon and 6 p.m. at the college. Financial aid, career options, campus services and other information will be available.

On Thursday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., the college will host its annual open house. College tours, door prizes and refreshments will be available, and faculty will be on hand to answer questions. General registration will take place Thursday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. For more information, call Suzie Kendrick at 262-0320.

Kasilof Historical Society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold its general membership meeting Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road. Guest speaker will be Stan McLane of the Kasilof Regional Historical Association, speaking on the early days of Kasilof. Members and the public are invited to attend. PenDOG plans annual elections

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the club, Mile 1 of the Kenai Spur Highway. The meeting will include the group's annual election. Members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 262-6846.

Folk dancers plan first dance of year

The Kenai River Folk Dancers will host a community contra dance Jan. 18 from 7 until 10 p.m. at Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School. Admission is $5; children under 16 are free with an adult. Potluck refreshments are encouraged. For more information, call 260-4171.
