A fire destroyed a mobile home off Echo Lake Road early Tuesday morning. A passing motorist called 911 to report the fire on Lakeside Avenue, just off Granny and Echo Lake Road.
One engine, three tankers, a medic unit and two command vehicles responded to the incident along with 13 personnel from Central Emergency Services. The first unit arrived within 10 minutes of the call, and the fire was declared under control within 30 minutes.
The 1,260-square-foot combination mobile home and lean-to, along with its contents, were destroyed by the fire. No one was in the home at the time.
“It was pretty much on the ground by the time we got there,” said CES Assistant Chief Gordon Orth. “Older mobile homes have lots of paneling and don’t have a lot of the fire protections that a regular wood structure would have. They burn very, very fast.”
The cause remains under investigation until fire investigators have completed questioning the owners, Doris and Mary Gattenby. The estimated value of the property lost is $40,000.
