Kenai police make pot bust

Posted: Tuesday, January 05, 2010

Kenai Police arrested a 49-year-old woman for growing six plants of marijuana on Jan. 1 by "following their noses."

Kenai Police Sgt. Scott McBride said the patrolling officers detected the strong odor of unburned marijuana emanating from Karen Barngrover's home near mile 14 off the Kenai Spur Highway just after 4:30 a.m.

They approached the home and found Barngrover, who was startled to see the police, outside, according to McBride. Barngrover was cooperative and led the police to the marijuana plants.

After processing the plants, police estimated they had seized approximately one pound of marijuana. They arrested Barngrover on two charges of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, according to the police report.
