Several Kenai businesses were without power for approximately four hours Friday, after a piece of underground equipment failed.
According to Homer Electric Association spokesperson Joe Gallagher, the outage occurred in the area of Main Street Loop and Willow Street in Kenai, but only affected large, "three-phase" power users in the area. Most homes and small businesses receive one-phase service.
"The piece that failed affects larger businesses that have a larger (power) load," Gallagher said. He noted that some buildings which lost power actually still had partial electricity.
"Most of the three-phase consumers had partial power," he said, noting that smaller users were unaffected.
Gallagher said HEA crews located the failure, and power was completely restored by 10:15 a.m.
"They fixed it up, and we're good to go," he said.
