Individuals out of work as a result of the October flooding may find out more about how to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance by calling (800) 590-5941 or by going to and clicking on the Disaster Unemployment Assistance link.

Benefits are based on an individual's 2001 earnings, according to officials with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Benefits can range from $97 to $248 a week, plus $24 for each dependent up to a total of three.

Disaster unemployment insurance is not available to people who qualify for regular unemployment insurance benefits.

The deadline to apply for this assistance program is Wednesday at 5 p.m.
