Historical society to meet

The Soldotna Historical Society will hold a board of directors meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at River City Books. The public invited.

Mushroom hunters to gather

The Kenai Peninsula Mycological Society will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Historical society soars with topic

Bob Bielefeld of Kenai Aviation will trace the history of his air service and Kenai Municipal Airport at a Kenai Historical Society meeting. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday downstairs at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant in Kenai.

Fitness contest to help wrestlers

A 12-week Kenai Peninsula Fitness for Life Contest will be conducted from Monday through April 10 with proceeds going to benefit the Skyview High School wrestling team.

Prizes will be awarded in each of five age categories: 16-20, 21-40, 41-60, 61-79 and 80 and up. Contestants will be judged on most weight lost, most improved physique and an essay describing the experience and the impact the contest had on the participant’s life.

Before pictures will be taken between Monday and Jan. 15, and after pictures will be taken 12 weeks later. A $15 registration fee is required and pledge sheets are available for additional donations to Skyview wrestlers or other organizations.
