Russian Nativity services set

Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church in Kenai will celebrate Nativity, sometimes referred to as Orthodox Christmas, with special services beginning at 8:30 a.m. today. Royal Hours will be at 8:30, followed by vespers with liturgy at 10 a.m.

Nativity services are scheduled for Saturday beginning with divine liturgy at 10 a.m., followed immediately by Starring — a custom involving caroling from the church to people’s houses and ending at the priest’s home in Old Town. A 6 p.m. vigil service also is planned for Saturday.

Sunday services include divine liturgy at 10 a.m. and vespers at 6 p.m.

Divine liturgy is planned for 9 a.m. Monday, as well.

People who want their homes included in the Starring visits should call Father Thomas at 283-4122 or 252-0949 to make arrangements.

Matrix skit features King Kong

Matrix Church will feature a skit, “Phoebe vs. King Kong in Judge Judy’s Court” at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Peninsula Christian Center behind The Salvation Army store on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. The skit is based on Romans 10:13.

Matrix will also feature “Hootie and the Blow Pops,” a drama from The Edge youth church, as well as games, interactive worship and gas cards. Matrix is a church designed for parents to attend with their children.

Women’s Bible study offered

“Precepts,” a women’s Bible study on the book of Joshua, is being offered at 10 a.m. Thursday by the First Baptist Church of Kenai.
