BETHEL (AP) -- Searchers have found the body of a missing 63-year-old Bethel man, Alaska State Troopers said.

Pavilla Bayayok had been missing since Dec. 23. He was returning to Bethel from Kwethluk when his snow machine apparently fell through Kuskokwim River ice, according to troopers.

Searchers spotted snow machine tracks on Dec. 26 near open water about 8 miles upriver from Bethel. A few feet away, they found Bayayok's snow machine under about 10 feet of water. Searchers found Bayayok's body a few feet away after spotting his red backpack under the ice.
