EDD to host workshop
The Kenai Peninsula Borough Community and Economic Development Division will host a USDA workshop today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Red Diamond Center, Suite 16. This workshop will provide training in how to apply for the USDA kiln-drying facilities in Alaska, and there also will be discussion on future USDA funding for timber operators.

School board meets today
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District's Board of Education meets today in the Borough Building in Soldotna. All school board meetings are open to the public. People are encouraged to come to an informal open forum to share concerns with school board members and administrators. It begins at 7 p.m. in conference rooms A and B. The regular board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.
The school board agenda includes items relating to employee contract negotiations, staffing levels and the certified diploma. Agendas are available at the meeting or the district's Web site at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us.
Online dividend applications available
Online applications are available today for the Alaska Permanent Fund dividend. The online application system is not available for first-time applicants, applicants who were ineligible last year, Alaskans who were out of state for more than 90 days in 2001 and Alaskans who are not in the state on the day they file. Because of the additional documentation required, these people will need to submit paper applications.
All online applicants must have a valid Social Security number, be a U.S. citizen and have a printer accessible. The Web site for online applications is www.pfd.state.ak.us/PFD_ONLINE.
Health center hours temporarily changed
The Kenai Public Health Center hours from today until Friday are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Immunization clinics for today and Wednesday in Kenai and Thursday at the Elks Club in Soldotna are canceled. For more information, call 335-3400.

Boys and Girls Club board meeting scheduled

School budget review committee seeks members
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is seeking members for the Budget Review Committee to consider the development of the budget for the fiscal year 2003. Meeting dates will be the evening of Jan. 24 and all day Jan. 28.

Historical society membership meeting slated
The annual general membership meeting of the Soldotna Historical Society will be Saturday at the Kenai River Center Building on Funny River Road. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and be followed by a lecture by Tracy Miller of the Kenai Peninsula Totem Tracers Genealogical Society on the history of peninsula cemeteries.
SS administration to visit area
The Social Security administration for Alaska will visit the Kenai Peninsula Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in city council chambers in Seward, Jan. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at city hall in Kenai and Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior citizens center in Homer.
The administration also will be on the peninsula Feb. 12, 13 and 14 and March 12, 13, 14 at the same locations and times for each city.
Fund-raiser planned for MDA
The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alaska will place some of Soldotna's most notorious citizens "behind bars" at the Peninsula Steak House Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise money for the association.
